Spray Tans in Oxford, AL

What Is a Spray Tan?

Never had a spray tan before? Don't worry! We've got you.

A spray tan is a form of sunless tanning that gives your skin a temporary bronzed appearance without needing exposure to UV rays from the sun or tanning beds.

During your appointment, a professional tanning solution is applied evenly to your skin using a spray tanning system. The solution contains an ingredient called DHA (dihydroxyacetone), which interacts with amino acids in the outermost layer of your skin to create a temporary tan.

Here's what you should know:

  • No sunbathing or tanning beds required.

  • Your color is customized to your desired level of bronze.

  • The initial color you see may include a cosmetic bronzer that helps guide the application.

  • Your actual tan continues developing after application and even after your first rinse.

  • Your color gradually fades as your skin naturally exfoliates.

At Healthy Skyn Club, we exclusively offer rapid spray tans, meaning you don't have to wait 8–12 hours before your first shower.

What Is a Rapid Spray Tan?

A rapid spray tan works similarly to a traditional spray tan, but the solution is designed to allow an earlier first rinse.

Instead of sleeping in your tanning solution overnight, you can rinse your skin within 2–5 hours of your appointment.

Your recommended rinse time depends on the depth of color you're looking for and the tanning solution used.

Here's a general guide:

  • 2 hours: A lighter, subtle sun-kissed glow.

  • 3–4 hours: A medium, bronzed appearance.

  • 5 hours: A deeper, richer bronze.

These are general guidelines rather than guaranteed shade results. Your skin chemistry, preparation, and individual response to the solution can influence your final color.

And don't worry if your tan looks lighter after your first shower! This is completely normal. Your cosmetic bronzer will rinse away, while your actual tan continues developing over the next 24 hours.

How to Prepare for Your Spray Tan

Your spray tan results start before you even walk through our doors. Proper preparation is one of the most important steps to achieving an even, beautiful finish.

Whether this is your first spray tan or you're a seasoned spray tan girlie, follow these steps!

24–48 Hours Before Your Appointment

1. Exfoliate your entire body.

Use an exfoliating mitt or glove to remove dead skin buildup. Pay extra attention to areas that tend to be dry or rough, including:

  • Elbows

  • Knees

  • Ankles

  • Feet and heels

  • Underarms

This helps create a smoother surface for your tanning solution.

2. Shave or wax.

Complete shaving at least 24 hours before your appointment. If you're waxing, schedule it 24–48 hours beforehand to allow your skin time to settle.

3. Remove any existing self-tanner.

If you have leftover spray tan or self-tanner, make sure it's completely removed before your appointment. Old product can cause uneven results.

4. Keep your skin hydrated.

Moisturize regularly in the days leading up to your appointment. Well-maintained skin helps your tan fade more evenly. Just avoid applying moisturizer on the day of your appointment.

The Day of Your Appointment

Arrive with clean, dry skin.

Please avoid applying:

  • Body lotion or moisturizer

  • Body oils

  • Perfume or body spray

  • Makeup (if you’re wearing makeup we have makeup remover available)

  • Sunscreen

  • Other skincare or body products

These products can create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution.

What should I wear?

We recommend bringing or wearing:

  • Loose-fitting, dark clothing

  • Oversized T-shirts or sweatpants

  • Loose-fitting underwear or a thong, if preferred

  • Sandals or flip-flops

Avoid tight leggings, jeans, sports bras, and anything that will rub against your skin after your appointment.

You can wear whatever you're comfortable with during your session. We suggest wearing a bathing suit if you’re feeling modest. Or just a thong if you don’t like the look of a tan line. Your comfort and privacy matter!

Spray Tan Aftercare: How to Make Your Tan Last

You've done the prep, received your tan, and now it's time to protect your glow!

The first few hours after your appointment are especially important.

Immediately After Your Appointment

Until your scheduled rinse time:

  • Avoid showering or getting your skin wet.

  • Avoid sweating or strenuous workouts.

  • Do not apply lotion, oils, or other products.

  • Avoid tight clothing that may rub against your skin.

  • Stay away from rain, swimming, and activities involving water.

Allow your skin to remain dry while your tan develops.

Your First Rinse

Once your recommended 2–5-hour development window has passed:

  1. Rinse using lukewarm water.

  2. Do not use soap, body wash, or shampoo during your initial rinse.

  3. Rinse until the cosmetic bronzer has washed away and the water runs clear.

  4. Gently pat your skin dry with a clean towel.

  5. Avoid rubbing or exfoliating your skin.

Your tan may look lighter immediately after rinsing. Give it time! Your color will continue developing over the next 24 hours.

You can return to your normal gentle shower routine after your initial rinse, following any additional instructions provided at your appointment.

The Following Days: Maintain Your Glow

Want your spray tan to last as long as possible? A little maintenance goes a long way.

  • Moisturize your skin daily, ideally morning and evening.

  • Drink plenty of water to support overall skin hydration.

  • Use a gentle, moisturizing body wash.

  • Avoid harsh exfoliants, exfoliating mitts, and scrubs while your tan is fresh.

  • Avoid long, hot baths and excessive soaking.

  • Limit prolonged exposure to chlorinated pools and saltwater.

  • Pat your skin dry instead of rubbing with a towel.

As your tan naturally fades, avoid picking, peeling, or aggressively scrubbing your skin.

How Long Does a Spray Tan Last?

With proper preparation and aftercare, your Healthy Skyn Club spray tan can last approximately 7–10 days.

Your results will gradually fade as your skin naturally sheds its outermost layer of cells.

Several factors can influence how long your tan lasts:

  • Your skin type and natural skin turnover.

  • How well you exfoliated before your appointment.

  • Your daily moisturizing routine.

  • How frequently you shower or swim.

  • Excessive sweating and friction.

  • The skincare and body products you use.

For the most even results, keep your skin hydrated and avoid unnecessary exfoliation.

When Should I Book My Spray Tan?

Planning for an upcoming event? Timing matters!

We recommend scheduling your spray tan 1–2 days before your event to allow your color to fully develop and settle.

Some examples:

  • Wedding: 1–2 days before your wedding.

  • Vacation: 1–2 days before departure.

  • Birthday or special occasion: 1–2 days before your event.

  • Photoshoot: 1–2 days before your scheduled photos.

If you've never had a spray tan before, consider booking a trial tan a few weeks before a major event. This gives you time to see how the color develops on your skin and decide on your preferred shade.

Frequently Asked Questions About Spray Tanning

I've never had a spray tan. Is it right for me?

Absolutely! Spray tanning is a great option if you want a temporary bronzed appearance without UV tanning. First-timers are always welcome. We'll walk you through the process and help you understand how to prepare and care for your tan.

Will I look orange?

A properly selected tanning solution and appropriate application can create a beautiful, natural-looking bronze. Your desired depth, undertones, skin preparation, and individual skin chemistry all play a role in your results.

Our goal is to complement your natural skin tone rather than completely change it.

Will a spray tan cover stretch marks, scars, or cellulite?

A spray tan adds temporary color to the skin, which can help create a more uniform appearance. However, it does not remove or completely conceal stretch marks, scars, cellulite, or skin texture.

Can I get a spray tan if I have fair skin?

Of course! Spray tans aren't just for people who naturally tan easily. We can work toward a subtle, natural-looking glow that complements your complexion.

You don't have to choose the darkest shade to get beautiful results.

What if I have naturally darker skin?

Spray tans can enhance your existing complexion by adding warmth and a bronzed finish. They aren't limited to lighter skin tones. Your desired result will help guide the application.

Can I shower after my spray tan?

Yes! Our rapid spray tan allows you to rinse within 2–5 hours, depending on your desired depth. Just remember that your first rinse should be water only. Avoid soap and body wash until your next shower.

Why does my tan look lighter after my first shower?

This is completely normal! The initial cosmetic bronzer washes away during your first rinse. Your actual tan is still developing and will continue to deepen over the next 24 hours.

Can I work out after my spray tan?

We recommend avoiding workouts, excessive sweating, and activities that cause friction until after your first rinse. Once you've rinsed, you can resume your routine, but frequent heavy sweating may cause your tan to fade faster.

Can I swim with a spray tan?

You can, but swimming in chlorinated pools or saltwater can shorten the life of your tan. We recommend limiting prolonged water exposure if you want to maintain your color.

Will a spray tan stain my clothes or sheets?

Some cosmetic bronzer may transfer onto clothing, bedding, or other fabrics before your first rinse. Wearing dark clothing and allowing your tan to dry completely before getting dressed can help minimize transfer.

Does a spray tan protect me from the sun?

No! A spray tan does not provide SPF or protect your skin against sunburn or UV damage. Continue wearing broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher whenever you're outdoors.

Can I get a spray tan while pregnant or breastfeeding?

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your healthcare provider before scheduling. DHA spray products are intended for external application, and care must be taken to avoid inhalation and exposure to the eyes, lips, and other mucous membranes.

How often can I get a spray tan?

Many clients schedule a new spray tan every 7–10 days, depending on their personal preferences and how their previous tan has faded. Your skin should be free of leftover tanning solution before receiving another application.

Do I need to tan before getting a spray tan?

Not at all! You do not need a base tan. Spray tanning is designed to provide temporary color without requiring UV exposure.

What if I have an event the same day as my appointment?

Remember that your rapid tan still needs time to develop. Even though you can rinse within 2–5 hours, your final color takes longer to develop. For the best results, schedule your appointment at least one day before your event whenever possible.

A little bronze. A lot of confidence.

Your next glow-up is just an appointment away!
