Facial FAQs: Everything You Wanted to Know but Were Too Ashy to Ask

Let’s be real. Booking a facial can feel like stepping into a whole new world of steamer machines, mystery serums, and “you might feel a tingle.” And if you’ve ever wondered, “Am I supposed to shave my face first?” or “What if I fall asleep and snore?”—you’re not alone.

At Healthy Skyn Club, we believe there are no dumb questions when it comes to skincare—just dry foreheads, over-exfoliated cheeks, and people who were too ashy to ask.

So grab a sheet mask and your favorite snack—because we’re breaking down the most common (and awkward) facial questions with zero judgment and a whole lot of tea.

💬 “Do I need to shave my face before a facial?”

Short answer: Nope. Please don’t.

You don’t need to shave, dermaplane, or do anything major to your skin before your appointment. In fact, doing too much—like exfoliating or shaving—can make your skin more sensitive during your facial.

Come as you are. We will prep your skin properly before treatment.

💬 “Can I wear makeup to my appointment?”

Yes, but…

If you come with a full face beat, we’ll take it all off during your cleanse (and secretly be impressed with your setting spray skills).

Pro tip: If you can go makeup-free, do it—it just saves time and gets us to the glow faster.

💬 “Can I wear makeup after my facial?”

Ideally… no.
Your pores are clean, open, and ready to breathe. Let them live a little! Try waiting at least 6–8 hours, or even better—go makeup-free for the rest of the day.

Your skin will be glowing—show it off.

💬 “How often should I be getting facials?”

If your skin could text you, it would say: “Book me once a month, please.”

The average skin cell cycle is around 28 days, so a monthly facial helps maintain healthy skin, boost results, and stay ahead of issues like breakouts or dryness.

Budget-friendly tip: Even every 6–8 weeks is helpful—consistency is key.

💬 “Do I need to know my skin type before I come?”

Nope—we got you.

During your first facial, we will do a proper consultation and skin analysis. You don’t need to diagnose yourself with “combo-dry-sometimes-oily-but-also-sensitive stress skin.”

✨ Just show up. We’ll take care of the rest.

💬 “Can I get a facial if I have acne?”

Yes, yes, and YES.
Facials are actually one of the best ways to treat and manage acne—especially when done regularly.

✨ All of our customized facials include:

  • Enzyme exfoliation

  • LED therapy

  • Extractions

  • Acne-safe products

  • Plus More. Basically whatever your skin needs, it gets!

Pro tip: Be honest about what you’re using at home—your skin will thank you.

💬 “Will I be red or broken out after?”

You might be a little pink, especially if you had extractions or a peel—but it should be temporary. If you break out after, it’s usually from purging (not a bad thing) or something in your home routine.

✨ Aftercare tip: Skip intense workouts, makeup, or exfoliants for 24–48 hours.

💬 “Can I bring my man?”

Bring him. Drag him. Gift him a facial.
Skincare is not just for the ladies. Men’s skin has different needs (like shaving irritation, ingrown beard hairs or oil buildup), and facials can work wonders.

✨ PSA: Guys love a good hot towel moment.

💬 “What should I do after my facial?”

  • Drink water (your skin’s thirsty)

  • Avoid harsh products or exfoliants for 2–3 days

  • Wash your pillowcase (yes, really)

  • Stay out of the sun

  • Glow and mind your business

Still have questions? Ask away.

Whether you’re a first-timer or a self-care regular, there’s no shame in not knowing everything about facials.

Final Thought:

You don’t have to know it all. You just have to show up, trust your esthetician (me!), and keep showing your skin the love it deserves.

Because ashy may be temporary, but educated glow-ups are forever. Treat your skin to a little TLC and schedule your facial today.

Until next time. . .
